Invocation by Aileen Erin (Days of Iron and Clay, #1) [booktour]

Image
Samantha is trying very hard to be a normal teenager, but it's a hard thing to do for someone who is part demon part human. Dealing with demonic activities always put her in a mental hospital, so she tried very hard to stay away from it all, but when she heard the scream for help from the apartment downstairs she couldn't  stay away.  Skip to a few years later, when she is employed in the supernatural community to deal with demon activities, she runs into the cute guy again, but he is the one who needs help now. It's the first book in what I'm sure will be one hell of a series, of a part demon, a part human girl, fighting against demon invasion and trying not to get found by her father.  Samantha grows much in the book and becomes stronger by the end. However my favorite part was the paranormal aspect of it, the demons, the portals, it's so cool! :) I took the book with me everywhere and read it from start to finish in a few days. I couldn't stop reading, the in

Werecats Emergent by Mark J. Engels

Image
Pawly is just a normal teenager, thinking about going to college and playing ice hockey, until one night, when her brother is in trouble, she transforms into something totally different. She discovered that she inherited a family curse. Under duress, she transforms into a werecat.   The story is told from two POVs,  Pawly, as she discovers her powers and deals with everything that comes with them, good and bad, and Ritzy, her uncle, whose story reads more like a thriller. The world created as a whole is well-developed and full of details, that make it more real as you read the story. There are historical tidbits about the werecats interwoven that make the story come alive. The setting just jumps from the pages, and the whole Werecats lore is very well written and established. There are betrayals, family drama, tension at every turn and enough action to keep you glued to the pages. I really liked the story, but it's a very complex one, so I was often confused about what was going on

The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan

Image
I never expected that there would be another book in the original Percy Jackson series. I was looking forward to reading it and it certainly didn't disappoint. Percy is almost done with high school, but before he can enter college, he needs three recommendation letters from Gods. And the only way to get that is to do random quests for whichever God needs something. First, he has to help Ganymede, who lost his golden goblet. He needs to find it before it gets into the wrong hands because it can turn any mortal into a god.  Nothing is ever easy or straightforward in Percy's world. He, Annabeth and Grover are back together and it's the best thing! :) It has all of the elements that made the Percy Jackson series so good, friendship, adventure and awesome mythology. The only thing that it hits differently is that the stakes are a lot lower...  ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ book info published September 26, 2023 number of pages 268 GoodReads Amazon happy reading, anie

Remember Pompeii by Kika Emers

Image
Kali is a teenager, with an immortal soul. She is being punished for something that happened in Pompeii to live as a mortal girl along with her family. If she manages not to use her powers by the time she reaches 17 years, she and her family will go back to being immortal beings.  She hasn't managed to come to that age in 200 lifetimes, but what no one else knows, is that that is on purpose. She doesn't want to lose what she has and doesn't want anything to change.  This is the lifetime when it all changes. She is being blackmailed and is left with little to no choice. I like the premise of the story, but I had time to get into it. Kali is a very hard person to like and root for. ☆☆ ☆ book info published April 30, 2024 series The Wanshiqi Trilogy #1 GoodReads Amazon happy reading, anie

When Oceans Rise by Robin Alvarez

Image
When Oceans Rise is a Little Mermaid retelling, with Filipino elements and alternate universes. It's such a great story, with great writing and interesting characters. It's a great and impactful story full of fantastical elements, but the ones that had the biggest impact on me were the realistic ones. The bad relationship that Malaya finds herself in, the intricacies of gaslighting, the subtleties of gaslighting, and abuse were portrayed in a very, very realistic way. We all feel like we couldn't find ourselves in that situation, it could never happen to me. And when you find yourself in that kind of situation, there is so much shame that you too, feel speechless, like Malaya did. Highly recommend it! rating❤❤❤ ❤ cover❤❤❤❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

That becomes even worse when she meets the spirit of Saint Valentine. She is ready to give her heart away, until one Lunar New Year festival, when she gets a paper heart. She is ready to believe again, but the road to love isn't easy. It's a lovely story about finding your way back to love and dealing with a harsh family trust. You Can Have My Back, Vol. 1 by Minami Kotsuna

Image
I was very excited to read the book, the premise sounds great and it has all of the elements I love: political intrigue, fantasy set-up, and reincarnation love story. But the execution itself wasn't that good. Instead story opening the door to a new world, it sets up the future stories, while not standing on its own. I felt like was reading a sequence of events, but without an actual plot. It was quite confusing, especially at the start and had trouble staying focused. The age gap was a bit much too. rating ❤ ❤ ❤ cover  ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

Confessions of a Dangerous Girl by Dan Birk

Image
One of my favourites this year! I loved reading it! Emma has spent most of her life in a boarding school, that is supposed to be for child psychopaths, but it's actually an undercover CIA training facility. They are supposed to help kids like Emma to become better people, but in reality, they are training them to be assassins. Emma's latest mission takes her back home when she has to go undercover at a local high school and pose as a normal student. She needs to get into Model UN, so she will have access to her target. But something like that is much harder for Emma than anticipated. She never made real friends and her first attempt failed miserably. To get into the club, she convinces the best student, to help her become a better person, while she will help her get a guy she likes. Slowly but surely, Emma changes. She learns how to make actual friends and starts to do good, but the mission should always come first. The story is told from Emma's POV, so you really get into

Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok

Kim and her mom arrived in NY in search of a better life, with the help of her mom's older sister. She got them an unlivable apartment, without heating in cold NY winters, with broken windows and no furniture. She made them both work at a sweatshop for very, very little money and then she took most of it. Kim had to go to school in a new country, barely knowing the language and not knowing the culture. She stuck out and the school that she once loved, because very hard. It was hard to make friends when you could never invite anyone back home, or spend all of your afternoons and evenings working. But she didn't give up, she continued to try and learn and soon got a spot in a prestigious private school. It didn't get much easier for her, especially when you top the struggle with teenage angst and problems, but she never gave up. I loved the first half of the book. It's a very beautiful, realistically written story of the struggle of growing up not knowing the culture, no

Heartstopper Vol. 4 by Alice Oseman

Image
This one is a bit different but in a good way. Charlie wants to say I Love You to Nick, but can't seem to find a good moment. Meanwhile, his mental health keeps getting worse, to the point that he needs more help than he can get at home.  Nick is consumed with worry. He worries about coming out to his dad, but mostly he worries about Charlie.  He sees him getting worse and worse, to the point that he doesn't spend much time at school.  They both have to come to terms that they can't be everything for each other and find a balance between love and everything else.  rating❤❤❤ ❤ ❤ cover ❤❤❤❤❤ artwork❤❤❤❤❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

Heartstopper Vol. 3 by Alice Oseman

Image
It's the summertime. Charlie and Nick, along with their friends from their school and the girl's school across the street travel to Paris.  They explore the city together while navigating how to be a couple along the friend group. Meanwhile, we see more about Tara and Darcy's story and see Tao and Elle falling for each other.  It's so cute! :) rating❤❤❤ ❤ ❤ cover ❤❤❤ ❤ ❤ artwork ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

Heartstopper Vol. 2 by Alice Oseman

Image
Charlie and Nick continue to fall deeper and deeper in love in the second book of the Heartstopper series. The book is cuteness overload.  Charlie has known that he is gay for a long time, but for Nick, all of this is very new. He is not ready to tell anyone just yet, so they keep their relationship a secret. At least for a while.  But they are not as subtle as they seem. :) The story is adorable and relatable and it just makes you want to read more. The writing is good and the artwork is seriously adorable. :) rating❤❤❤ ❤ ❤ cover ❤❤❤ ❤ ❤ artwork ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

Heartstopper Vol. 1 by Alice Oseman

Image
Charlie is an openly gay student in year 10 at Truham Grammar School for Boys. Since coming out the year before, he faced a lot of bullying, but it has gotten better since then. Now he is seated next to Nick, who is a year 11. Nick is on a school rugby team. He heard about Charlie, but they never talked. They start talking each time they have class together and never really stop. They get closer when Charlie joins the rugby team. They soon became good friends, always hanging out even after school, and Charlie finds himself falling from Nick. But Nick is straight. Only lately he catches him looking and he seems to always find a way to touch him. It's the cutest, most wholesome start of a romance. I loved reading every page of it! The slowly developing romance between Charlie and Nick it's just the most romantic thing. :) And the artwork is pretty too! <3 rating❤❤❤ ❤ ❤ cover ❤❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ artwork ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan (The Heroes of Olympus #5)

Image
The giants have all risen and the heroes are no closer to saving the Earth more than before. They are on a tight deadline. They have also been having nightmares of battle at the camp half-blood.  They all want to go back there and help their friends, but their quest is more important. So Reina, Nico and the coach shadow travel back west, while the heroes go east. It's the final book in the series and the stakes have never been higher. It's a good conclusion to the story, but I was honestly a bit disappointed with the ending. After all that build-up, it seemed a bit underwhelming. The one thing that I consistently didn't like in all of the books was the narration. I didn't like the POV switches, they didn't work as well as the first-person narrative in the first series. rating  ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤   cover  ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

The House of Hades by Rick Riordan (The Heroes of Olympus #4)

Image
The most intense book of the series! The stakes are higher than ever. Percy and Annabeth are in Tartarus, trying to survive and find a way out, in time, and they can't fail. Nico leads the rest of the team to the House of Hades. They have to arrive at just the right time if they want to save their friends.  It's so good! rating❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤  cover ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤   Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan (The Heroes of Olympus #3)

Image
Heroes are finally all together. They didn't have the best start, the peace with the Roman camp they were hoping for is long gone and they are planning on going after them.  They are on a ship, made by Leo, trying to come to the ancient land, but of course, it never goes smoothly for the heroes. Annabeth has a quest of her own to complete, she has to follow the Mark of Athena and find the statue that was lost for centuries. She is hoping that it will help bring peace between the camps, but the mission is not easy.  It's my favourite in the series so far- Percy and Annabeth are finally back together. :) And that cliffhanger at the end, omg! rating ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ cover  ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan (The Heroes of Olympus #2)

Image
Percy woke up from a long sleep, not knowing who he was or where he is. He spent the last few weeks getting trained by the wolf Lupa, who told him he was a demigod. Now he has to fight his way to the camp for half-bloods. But these kinds of things are never straightforward for demigods. The monsters keep attacking him and they seem to come back faster and faster each time.  He finally makes it, with a little help from Hazel and Frank, but the place feels all kinds of wrong.  Soon they have to go on a quest, to the land beyond Gods and face their own demons along the way. The danger awaits the heroes, new monsters, stronger, and deadlier than before and they don't stay dead.  The story is told from three different points of view. And Percy is finally back! :) rating ❤❤❤❤❤ cover ❤❤❤❤❤ Goodreads || Amazon happy reading, anie

Frenemies with Benefits by Lydia Sharp

Image
This is just the cutest story! It's the end of the high school. For Jess that means working, trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life and hanging with her brother, who is coming home from college for a month. He is also bringing a friend that she has the biggest crush on. But the problem is, that she can barely talk to a guy, let alone do anything else. She needs someone to practice on and the perfect guy, for no strings attached, just lost of naked time is Ben. Ben and Jess are the only single ones in their friend group ( well Ben has a lot of girlfriends, just not for a long time), but they can't even be considered friends. They constantly argue and pick on each other. She is sure that she can separate the physical and emotional. The more time they spend together, she gets to know a whole other Ben, who is kind of nerdy and doesn't have the best family and starts to fall for him. But her brother's friend is coming and they had a deal... An enemies with

The only family she has got is her brother, who is a senior.  When her class goes on a weekend trial on the sea, the whole part of the land, that house the school complex explodes. The rival school that they have been in conflict with for the last 150 years has attacked and her class is the only thing that can protect the legacy left. A retelling of 20 000 Leagues under the Sea, the story is full of adventure and nail-biting moments. Past and future merge in the story of survival, alt-tech, friendship and betrayal.  I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book and couldn't stop reading, it's so so good! Highly recommend it! rating
